Tom Dielen was born on 8 April 1968 in Mortsel, Belgium. He holds a Master of Engineering in Computer Science from Catholic University Leuven and a Sport Management Degree from the Belgian Olympic Academy. He is multi-lingual speaking Dutch, English, French and German fluently.

Dielen started his career as an Associate Analyst for a Belgian company called SWIFT, where he was responsible for Asset support for clients in London, New York, Paris and Luxembourg. He was appointed as FITA Executive Director in 1996. His responsibilities included daily management of FITA, including the coordination of FITA Championships and the archery event at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games, as well as the preparation of the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games.

After gaining valuable experience with the archery governing body, Tom Dielen decided to move his career in a new direction. In 2002, he joined the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as Director, European Regional Office. For over three years, Tom endorsed many responsibilities with the highest impact on anti-doping. He was notably the Liaison with the International Federations, the IOC, the NOCs in Europe, the OCOGs and other multisport organisations, Member of the World Anti-Doping Code Project team (2002-2003), Member of the ADAMS Project Team (2003 – 2004), Representative of WADA at the General Assemblies of ASOIF, GAISF, AIOWF, ARISF, EOC and responsible for the Management of the European Regional office.

In 2005, Dielen returned to his first love, Archery, and was appointed as World Archery Secretary General and Executive Director, his current position. He was given the challenging task of managing a federation and sport that is gaining popularity worldwide.

Since 1989, as former archer and instructor, he has taken on key administration roles, actively participating in the development of archery, notably by organising many indoor and outdoor archery tournaments in Belgium and Switzerland. He was President of the Organising Committee of Louvain-La-Neuve for the World University Archery Games (1989-1993), Administration and Finance director for the European Indoor Archery Championships (1994-1996), Chairman of the Technical Commission for Archery for FISU (1997-2000), Member and chairman of the Swiss Archery Federation Sports commission (since 2002). He is also member of the Swiss Association of Sports Managers (ASMS) and member of the board at the Swiss Association of Archery. Tom Dielen was also elected as member of the Executive Committee of the World Games in 2006. He is member of the Panathlon Club Lausanne.
