Wimbledon 3D goes world-wide

According to Sony, six broadcasters from the UK, US, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden will broadcast the 3D production of the end of the Wimbledon 2011 Championships, while cinema exhibitors from 22 countries worldwide are preparing to show it on more than 170 screens.

While the TV broadcasts are so far fairly narrowly distributed, the cinema screenings show an impressive worldwide reach, encompassing both the usual suspects and some much further flung countries (the full list being: UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Austria, US, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay).

Sony is at pains to point out though that there are still ongoing negotiations with broadcasters and cinema exhibitors in various countries and regions, so the number of countries and theaters where broadcasts and screenings are available is expected to further increase.
