RTP, the Portuguese public-service broadcaster, is to launch a high-definition cable channel to show coverage of this summer’s London Olympic Games. Paulo Sergio, RTP’s deputy head of sports, told the Correio de Manhã newspaper that carriage for the channel has already been secured on the Zon, Meo, and Vodafone platforms, and negotiations are under way with other operators.

The channel will start broadcasting on July 25 with coverage of the Olympic soccer tournament, before 24-hour-a-day coverage begins on July 27 as the games begin. For the complete story click here.
